Displacement: Time Matters
About
The universe teeters on the brink of annihilation as an insidious force, the Void Eaters, consumes everything in its path. In a desperate bid to outrun oblivion, Captain Georgia Evans and her intrepid crew aboard the cutting-edge vessel Asteria attempt a daring 2000-year time jump. However, a catastrophic malfunction hurls them not into the far future but 100,000 years into Earth's primordial past and 5 light years from their intended destination near Proxima Centauri.
Their AI computer ARIA, once a trusted ally, has inexplicably failed them, contributing to the spatial error that has stranded them in this alien era. A bizarre temporal rift ensnares the Asteria, pulling it towards a massive, artificial Dyson Ring structure orbiting a star. Alien ships surround them, transporting the bewildered crew to an otherworldly chamber where a mysterious entity known as the Defenders materializes before them.
The Defenders reveal the chilling truth about the Void Eaters, a relentless force consuming the universe. Their only hope lies in integrating the Asteria's revolutionary temporal drive with their own technology to create an impenetrable barrier against the encroaching doom. In a race against annihilation, the drive is hastily integrated, and the barrier holds - for now.
Offered a chance to remain with the Defenders, Paul and Dr. Chen choose this path while the rest of the crew elects to stay aboard the Asteria. The Defenders then propel the ship back towards its original coordinates near Proxima Centauri.
Orbiting the barren but habitable planet Proxima Centauri b, Captain Evans decides to investigate Proxima c, just outside the habitable zone. There, they encounter an alien civilization, but their probe is swiftly obliterated by a strange creature. The Asteria itself is ensnared by a tractor beam and crashes on the surface. Venturing outside, the crew comes face-to-face with the enigmatic aliens.
These beings, calling themselves Watchers of the cosmic web - an interconnected energy pathway spanning the galaxy - seek to integrate the Asteria's temporal drive with their technology to stabilize the fracturing pathways. Despite immense challenges, the drive is linked, and the cosmic web is temporarily stabilized. As a gesture of gratitude, the aliens repair the Asteria and send it on its way.
The cosmic web becomes a gateway, allowing the Asteria to travel back to Earth, still stranded 100,000 years in the past. Here, they encounter the fabled Annunaki - aliens who created humans by genetically altering existing terrestrial life with their own DNA. The crew bears witness to the birth of humankind and the Annunaki's lingering influence as ancient gods.
Arrested by the Annunaki but escaping back to their ship, the Asteria flees, pursued by hostile alien vessels. Utilizing the temporal drive, they return to their own era, only to find Earth a desolate, lifeless husk. Undeterred, they set a course for the mythical Annunaki homeworld, Nibiru.
Their journey leads them to Saturn's moon Titan, where human and alien survivors of Earth's destruction have established a tenuous outpost. Georgia is stunned to discover that a time-displaced version of the Asteria and part of her crew, including Paul and Dr. Chen, also made it to Titan.
After a year of futile efforts to recover Earth through experimental terraforming and temporal bubbles, Georgia makes a bold decision. They will return to the past, before the cataclysmic "Darkness" obliterated their homeworld, and rewrite history.
Arriving two weeks before the fateful event, and convincing Earth's authorities of their dire purpose, the Asteria crew helps bolster the planet's defenses. When the Darkness attacks, they engage in a desperate, hard-won battle - aided by the powerful Lumina - and ultimately prevail, restoring Earth to its former glory.
With their mission accomplished, the crew of the Asteria chooses to embrace the final frontier, exploring the vast mysteries of the universe aboard their indomitable ship.
